Winter is a fantastic time to visit Slimbridge with up to 30,000 wild wintering ducks, geese and swans feeding and roosting on the reserve.
Look out for star species: Bewick’s swans, white-fronted geese, lapwing, water rail, curlew.
Enjoy the following winter activities included in admission:
– Wild Bird Feeds | Daily at 4pm
See flocks of white-fronted geese and Bewick’s swans. Commentated wild bird feeds take place on the Rushy Lake at 4pm and can be watched from the heated Peng Observatory.
– Duck Decoy Demonstrations | Every Saturday at 2pm, Nov-Feb
Come and witness the historic practice of catching wild ducks in our duck decoy using a specially trained dog. Our warden’s dog will guide the birds into the decoy nets allowing our team to catch and place leg identification rings on the birds.
– Scott House Museum Tours | Daily at 11am & 1.30pm Mon-Fri
Take a step back in time as you enter Sir Peter Scott’s home where he championed the cause of worldwide wildlife conservation through growing the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) and set up the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Family highlights:

– Head to Back from the Brink and meet cute Harvest mice and water voles!
