Our core service is fully accessible hydrotherapy pool sessions for children and adults with disabilities and additional needs in Gloucestershire, who without The Chamwell Centre, would otherwise not have access to the vast benefits of a hydro pool.

Hydrotherapy is beneficial for those with a disability whether permanent or temporary. It has so many benefits for a wide spectrum of people; those with disabilities, those recovering from injury, those with mobility issues and those who have problems with movement. Hydrotherapy is gentle movement or exercise in a warm water pool which helps to improve muscle function, can improve balance, and help ease aches and pains and encourage relaxation. The warm water, at 34-36 degrees, allows tight muscles and tendons to relax and permits stretching of joints and limbs. It also relieves chronic pain, and the exercise improves cardiovascular and respiratory function. The weightlessness and support of the water allows freedom of movement to paralysed limbs and provides a force against which to exercise, to maintain muscle strength and tone.

The large hydrotherapy pool is aided by an overhead hoist from an extensive assisted changing room which has multiple changing beds with individual showers for those who are non-ambulant. We hold group and one-to-one swimming lessons specifically for children with disabilities and host pool parties for children with severe and complex needs.

There are qualified professional team members on poolside, reception and within the centre to ensure all visitors are safe and to give support and guidance.
