Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees (CWR) is a volunteer-led charity making sure refugee families in Cheltenham are supported from the moment they move in.
We work to raise awareness and understanding of the issues faced by refugees in the UK and throughout the world. We want to build a kinder and more inclusive society through vocal support of resettlement, migration and asylum.
We also arrange community events to help families to meet up with one another and adjust to their new homes together. We hold summer picnics and Eid celebrations, as well as providing background support and resources as needed.
We give information assemblies at local schools and hold regular public meetings to help deconstruct ideas and myths about international human movement, as well as organising a full roster of events to National Refugee Week every June.
Cheltenham is now officially a Town of Sanctuary, welcoming refugees and asylum seekers from across the world. Cheltenham’s a really special place, and it’s wonderful to share it with so many people who need care and new opportunities.
