Fat Squirrel Outdoor hosts groups for bushcraft and campfire experiences in the tranquil woodland of Notgrove, a picturesque Cotswold village just 3 miles from Bourton-on-the-Water. It’s an ideal escape from modern life, where everyone can learn bushcraft skills in a relaxed, inclusive environment.

With 5 years’ experience working with youth groups and families, the Fat Squirrel Outdoor team is skilled in delivering engaging, accessible experiences for all abilities. Activities include axe-throwing, fire-lighting, campfire cooking, soft archery and crafting with time to socialize around the fire, build woodland dens, or unwind in hammocks.

We welcome groups of 6 to 24 people, with larger group bookings available on request. Book online and enjoy a fun, family-friendly adventure in nature.

Inclusion statement

The Fat Squirrel Outdoor team is happy to answer any questions you may have before attending, and a member of the team will greet your group on arrival. All our experiences are fully hosted by one or more members of the Fat Squirrel Outdoor team.

We aim to create a relaxed atmosphere at all our events, helping everyone leave the hustle and bustle of modern life at the farm gate and enjoy a calm outdoor experience. We encourage participation through enthusiasm, patience, and praise.

With extensive experience working with SEND families, we ensure activities are clearly outlined upon arrival and at the start of each new activity. If helpful, we can chalk timings and instructions on a blackboard—just let us know. If anyone in your group has specific needs, please inform us, and we will do our best to accommodate.

We are located in a quiet, rural woodland, though the area is not fully secured with fencing. The experience is entirely outdoors, with large rustic shelters for rain cover, open campfire areas, and bench seating. The ground is uneven, with fallen branches and log piles that may present mobility challenges. It can get quite muddy, so we recommend puddle suits and wellies. Always be prepared for unpredictable UK weather with layers, waterproofs, and extra socks. We also suggest keeping legs and arms covered, even in warm weather, to avoid bites and stings. Wear old clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.

We host and guide all outdoor activities and strongly believe in the power of free play outdoors for all ages and abilities. However, for safety reasons, tree climbing is not permitted. Anyone seen climbing will be asked to come down.

We are off-grid with no access to electricity or running water. All water and food are brought into the woodland on the day, so we are unable to charge phones or devices. This is a chance to leave technology behind and fully embrace the natural experience.

With advance notice, we can cater to food preferences and allergies.
