Tewkesbury Nature Reserve (TNR) is a FREE green space and floodplain on the edge of Tewkesbury for all ages and abilities to enjoy.

Since 2012, we have been passionate about encouraging everyone in our community to enjoy the 44 hectares of land and water that make up TNR. We believe it is important to spread the message that 40% of all species rely on wetlands for water, food or habitat. TNR is home to a plethora of important wildlife, from herons to otters to dragonflies.

For humans, the benefits of spending time experiencing the sights and sounds of nature can help with recovery from illness. Time spent in nature is also a great tool for well-being to help reduce stress and anxiety.

Inclusion statement

We welcome everyone who is interested in exploring Tewkesbury Nature Reserve. Disabled and non-disabled people of any ability, age, background, gender, and faith can immerse themselves in the floodplain habitats of Tewkesbury Nature Reserve. The reserve is also dog and family friendly. We want everyone to feel safe and welcome at the reserve.

Access to the reserve is FREE and we have a small car park opposite the Wheatpieces housing estate. There is a height restriction of 2.1 metres for entering the car park, however, we can coordinate to move the barrier for larger vehicles if needed. There are 3 bridges on the reserve, the central bridge (nearest the car park) has a restricted width of 0.76 metres. The southern bridge has a width of 1.5 metres and the northern bridge has a width in excess of 2 metres. There are several gates on the reserve, all can be opened with a Radar Key. There are also several benches located around the reserve. Our Access and Community Officer can be contacted by email at access@tewkesburynaturereserve.org.uk for further information.

As an outdoor space and a floodplain, conditions on the reserve can be changeable providing some access challenges. The reserve floods regularly which can make the conditions wet and muddy or entirely inaccessible. We aim to keep our Instagram and Facebook social media pages updated with the current reserve conditions.

Permanent structures are not viable with the floodplain conditions on the reserve so there are no on-site facilities for both toilets or catering. The Wheatpieces Pub is located opposite the car park, Morrison’s at the north end has facilities, or Tewkesbury town centre is a 5 minute drive from the car park.

We encourage self-lead visits to the reserve but we are always happy to accommodate those who require more guidance. Please do not hesitate to get in touch via email, social media, or head to our ‘Contact Us’ page on our website.
