The Dean Heritage Centre has five museum galleries and various outside displays where you can explore the rich and unique heritage of the Forest of Dean; a perfect place to wile away a few hours whatever the weather. Younger visitors can enjoy a trail that tells the Gruffalo story through life-sized wooden sculptures carved by our chainsaw carver. The site has a lovely millpond, beside which visitors can relax whilst enjoying homemade refreshments from the Dean Heritage Coffee Shop or if you prefer you can bring your own picnic. We have a gift shop too where you will find unique items made by local creatives’, local books and gifts.

We have a number of disabled car parking spaces available in our car park located near the entrance. There is wheelchair access to the entrance area and shop, Galleries 1,2, 3 and 5, the Victorian School room, the Coffee Shop and the footpath through the wooded area including the Gruffalo trail. There is a disabled toilet in the museum and in the Coffee shop. A gradually sloping wide ramp connects the ground floor to the second floor. Gallery 4 is we regret, is not accessible to wheelchair users.

Guide and assistance dogs are welcomed in all areas of the Dean Heritage Centre. For disabled visitors who may require a little support on our woodland site, we are able to admit one carer free of charge to offer assistance where needed.
